Wicked! Thanks Patrick! I'll be sure to investigate the survival aspect in my next interview. I think you're on the button about the audio. It was something I thought about. I'll be speaking with a composer in the next couple of days to see what can be done. Thanks for the input! Speak soon.

This is well done in many respects. I really like the dramatic pauses in the audio voice-under, where the B-roll close-ups of Heriberto drawing, allow for unconscious transition between ideas. The music track could be improved to offer some music that tracks the subject matter more closely, for example, when H talks about the gangs and the mean streets and local park being gang turf, maybe some music of that genre to set the mood and underscore the risks? I do think that we are left wanting for more information about H and how he makes ends meet, but that's already been said. All in all, this has a feel that is part This American Life and part BBC documentary style, both of which I love, so with a few tweaks, this will be an outstanding vignette within a larger collection of artist stories! So Oliver, we should talk about how my group can help finance this work...

good point. if you watch some of the previous episodes the artist's talk about 'the hustle/struggle'. As an artist you need a back up plan. Luna works as a teacher, Rika is a writer/filmmaker, Sarah works in her parents shop, and Lucas is a lawyer.
For the 5 min edit I had to choose content carefully. I decided to tell story about growing up in a rough neighborhood because it's a contemporary issue and it's relevant to Los Angeles.
Check this episode: http://www.la-artist.com/blog/2009/10/04/episode-two-released/
Sarah talks about the 'hustle and surviving in an expensive city'

Great little piece and I really love his work... great colour. The contrast of colour is very pop arty but his subject is old and traditional culture... a great mix. Nice video work and slightly different from the last as you didn't have any commentary or questions from yourself included... I think I prefer this way. One thing I would like to know, and with other subjects, is how they survive? What do they do for money? Are they financially supported entirely by the art or do they have to work other jobs? As we know... being an artist is a risky business and it can be hard to sustain a steady income. Does this worry your artists at all... does money and making a living factor into their thoughts much? Great work though... keep them coming my man!
