On Saturday, Oliver Shipley, Kristen Sheline and I went over to the tin-roofed studio of artist Heriberto F Luna at Avenue 50 Studio, which he shares with his partner Pola Lopez, also an artist.
H. Luna was born in Mexico City, and grew up in Highland Park, where he continues to work and live his life. The Avenue 50 Studio feels like home to the flourishing community of Latina/o artists in Los Angeles. LA-Artist is collaborating with H. Luna for our fourth episode.
Our third episode, on artist Rika Ohara, is currently in the editing room. Oliver and I are collaborating on this edit, which at the moment looks great! Meanwhile, Oliver is working on a new LA-Artist trailer that includes our first four episodes (only two of which have been released). The group of artists that comprise the LA-Artist Documentary Project’s first four episodes are: Lucas Aardvark, Sarah Sitkin, Rika Ohara, and Heriberto F. Luna.
Next week, videographer Samantha Lyon will be filming Oliver and I in a promotional video that will be set up on www.Kickstarter.com, a grass-roots funding website for individuals and artists.
Additionally, LA-Artist has linked up with the Folk Music Center in Claremont (my hometown!) to be on the ground at the Folk Music Festival on May 1st. There, LA-Artist will be facilitating an ArtCard open workshop, as well as a video “confessional” booth where the Folk-loving community can talk about their relationship with the arts in Los Angeles. Check out the newly uploaded ArtCards to see how great that project is coming along!
A lot is in store for March: The release of Episode 3 on Rika Ohara, Episode 4 on Heriberto F. Luna, new promotional video, Kickstarter.com, party planning for our first four episodes, and a newsletter to follow!!!!!
