Some trees outside may be bare, but in LA, we are generally blessed/cursed with a year-round abundance of sunshine and warmth, and the additional loveliness of sublimely clear winter skies.
Last Friday, Oliver and I sat down with the artist of an upcoming episode, Rika Ohara, a filmmaker whose most recent work The Heart of No Place sparked a conversation among us about the meaning of “home”, “in-between” spaces, celebrity, assumption, technology, personal history, migration, movement, and food. I cannot wait to work with Oliver on Rika Ohara’s episode, and am excited for Ohara to become a glimmering fragment in our mosaic of LA artists. Check out our Flickr account to see some photos of Ohara and me talking in her garden.
Also, Oliver and I have edited some of our “crew interviews.” They will be posted on the LA-Artist Extras page in the next couple of days and consist of filmed interviews of the director and myself talking about what inspires us to do the cultural work that we are doing with LA-Artist.
Jon and Polly, our LA-Artist grant writers, have been working round the clock to get us more fuel for our fire. LA-Artist is so grateful to have the support of these two members of our staff, and hopefully, we will soon have funding for our entirely grass roots project. Furthermore, we have a number of wonderful people who have donated online to the life of our project, and to those who have done so, we cannot fully express our thanks. You folks are, quite simply, amazingly generous.
Other than that, Oliver and I are continually researching art spaces and shows in LA. We recently took in the visual splendor of Phloe’s illustrations at Lot 44 Coffee Gallery in Downtown, and are on the prowl for dance artists in and around Los Angeles.
